THE EUROPE-INDIA MARITIME HISTORY PROJECT
This website is part of APCA's larger project, co-financed by the European Commission, to document, profile and promote interest in the history of maritime contacts and exchanges between Europe and India and evaluate their impact in such varied fields as ecology, cartography, optics and navigation, architecture and urban planning, medicine, art, economy, religion, cuisine, clothing, warfare and political history, highlighting the necessities which gave rise to the maritime contacts, the forces which shaped them, and the vast –although often unknown- linkages that have ensued from them.
Two main activities have been foreseen by this project. The first is the production of a series of video documentaries that profile these relations. The second is the creation of this web site, using materials collected and developed for the video series, whose purpose is to provide additional information and online resources on Indo-European maritime historical relations.
